Aluminum Import Monitoring Program

The U.S. Commerce Department has implemented a new reporting program for imports of some aluminum products.

The U.S. Commerce Department has implemented a new reporting program for imports of some aluminum products.  The Aluminum Import Monitoring and Analysis System, or AIM, will require additional data elements to be reported. We must now declare the country of largest smelt, country of second largest smelt (if any), and country of most recent cast.  Import documents should reflect this required information.

The program has been delayed twice by the Biden Administration due to the “Regulatory Freeze Pending Review” order of Jan. 27, 2021 and will now go into effect on June 28th, 2021. This program mirrors SIMA (Steel Import Monitoring and Analysis System) which relates to steel mill products and licenses.
