General Cargo Liability and Additional Protection

General Limits on Liability -
Limits on Liability for all modes of transportation have been set by the appropriate governing authority:
Motor Cargo Limits of Liability:
Liability limits "must be reasonable under the circumstances." A release value based on commodity classification / tariff such as the National Motor Freight Carrier Tariff uses a mixture of "class," weight and value to determine a release rate. Some carriers have elected to use a set rate of $0.50 per lb.
U.S. Domestic Air Carriage:
Governed by air waybill, common provisions are: Damage Limit: Typically $0.50 per pound.
International Air Carriage:
Governed by Warsaw Convention: Damage limit: US$9.07 per pound/$20.00 per kilo for all damage, "however founded." Governed by Warsaw Under Montreal Protocol 4: Damage limit: 17 SDR per kilo for all damage, "however founded."
Ocean Cargo Limits of Liability:
Damage Limit U.S. COGSA: $500 per package or customary freight unit for shipments to/from the U.S.
Juno Logistics Marine Open Cargo Policy
Additional protection can be purchased under Juno Logistics’ Marine Open Cargo Policy. This insurance will cover all shipments of lawful goods, and/or merchandise against all risks of physical loss or damage from any external cause (excepting such risks as are excluded by the Paramount Warranties in the Juno Logistics Marine Open Cargo Policy). – Cargo War Risks and Strikes Riots and Civil Commotions (SR&CC) coverage is available upon request.
